How I love the daffodil. Bright and yellow. Hollow stem. Papery, translucent, petals. She dips down, a rainy bow into the grass.

This is set of daffodil stationery is letterpressed on our hand fed 100 year old Chandler & Price printing press. We hand mixed a bright sunny yellow ink that almost makes me smell the daffodils.

I was thrilled to get my hands on this set of antique wood type… Each number has its own character from years of printing. This is my first project using this typeface and I am so excited about the finished product!

Each coaster in this collection is hand fed into our Chandler & Price letterpress and hand typeset using a single number 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.

We chose a black ink on white coasters for a timeless graphic statement. Don’t worry, the ink will not run when it gets wet. These super thick 3.5″ round coasters love to get letterpressed! They also hold up for dozens of uses as long as you don’t spill colored liquid on them.

Great gift for… graphic designers, mathematicians, engineers, letterpresss lovers, type aficionados, hipster, fashionistas, coffee lovers, vinofiles, beer lovers, hostess gifts… the possibilities are endless.

Red Bird Ink has a new studio!

in historic downtown of Conyers, Georgia.

Our new studio space is bright pink and says Candy Shop!

We are excited to have more space and more tools.  The small town where we are renting also holds a special significance for us.

Collin’s grandmother Anna Lee Farill lived in Conyers, Ga when she was a young woman.  Her first job was to wash hair for $0.10 in the  back of a little barber shop.

As time when on and Anna Lee learned more about hair styling and business she owned her own salon.  When she married, her sisters-in-law began to run the salon which stayed in business for many years.  In fact, several people in Conyers have stopped by our space and shared stores about Alice Farill.

Two doors down from our studio is a old town pharmacy complete with chrome stools and an  operating soda fountain. I had a yum-o pimento cheese sandwich from there today.

Historic Conyers has the feeling of a town time forgot, only with a lot of bold paint!  A fun place to be!

This limited edition letterpress art print “Cow Parts #1″is a collaboration between Julia & Collin at Red Bird Ink and Lucy Laliberte at  Two Sweaters.
Lucy painted the original AMAZING cow portrait and we made it into letterpress plates and then printed the plates using our trusty Chandler & Price letterpress.

The cream cow is a three color print. First, we printed creamy undercoat. Next we printed the dark brown spots. Finally, we printed the black lines, legs and text.

We had the opportunity to print some business cards for our friends at Resource. They made us a great video of the process.

The design for this limited edition collection of prints was inspired by a backpacking trip in the snowy mountains. This set includes three unframed prints, one each of the following designs – Birches, Evergreens & Branches. Each piece is printed on handmade ultra-thick 5×7″ paper designed evoke the texture and reflective quality of snow. A vintage letterpress was used to blind deboss the paths and print the blue sky, branches, bark and limbs.
